(FILES) A file photo shows a post card released by the Historial de Peronne, Museum of WW1, of John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing (Centre - R), the US Army general who led the American Expeditionary Force in World War I, being welcomed in Boulogne, northern France, by French General Peltier (no first name available) member of the French military mission to assist the US Army's installation in France. - In January 1917 Germany -- under pressure from a British sea blockade -- steps up a campaign of attacking British merchant vessels with U-boat submarines, aiming to throttle the island. It pushes the United States to enter the conflict, angered by the torpedoing of neutral ships in the Atlantic and vessels carrying US citizens. Washington declares war on Germany on April 6 and on June 26 the first US deployment arrives at the French port of Saint-Nazaire. (Photo by STR / Historial de Pйronne / AFP)
