Screen actress Virginia Bruce has a big smile as she and her daughter Susan Gilbert carry luggage because of a long shoreman's walkout on their arrival in New York from Europe, aboard liner Independence, on Nov. 26, 1952. Helping his mother with the bags is 11 year old Christopher Briggs, who met Virginia and Susan at the pier. Miss Bruce was returning to the United States after re-marrying her husband Ali Ipar at their Istanbul home. They were divorced so that he could serve as an officer during a years compulsory service in the Turkish Army. Under Turkish law army commissions are denied to Turks married to foreigners. (AP Photo)
