Spurred by the need for cheap electricity for normal as well as defense activities in the northwestern U.S., two station service units in the power plant at Grand Coulee Dam in the state of Washington, seen March 8 1941, have been completed and will begin operation March 22 on the Bonneville transmission line. The dam, 550 feet high, 4,300 feet long and containing 11,250,000 cubic yards of concrete, is the largest structure yet erected by man. (AP Photo)
