Eyeworth Lodge, in the picturesque surroundings of Fritham in the New Forest, was the perfect isolated place for the risky business that saw lots of men injured or even killed, but it is now a stunning country home for anyone who wants to escape to the country. The seven-bedroom home, which has eight acres of land, is on the market with Strutt & Parker for GBP 4million. The site dates back to the Domesday Book and was used as a royal hunting lodge but the current house dates from the 17th century. In the 1860s it became the site of Schultze Gunpowder Factory. Although work on it started in 1860 after a businessman and an explosives expert bought the land, the company's namesake Captain Edward Schultze did not become involved at the site until his original factory in Potsdam caught fire and burnt to the ground in 1868.
