In an undated handout image provided by Nasa, John Young, the only astronaut to fly in the Gemini, Apollo and shuttle programs. An engineer and Navy test pilot who joined Nasa in 1962, Young walked on the moon in April 1972 and commanded the first shuttle mission in 1981. He died at home in Houston on Jan. 5, 2018, at 87.
