French paratroopers cross a small bridge after being dropped near Cho-Ben, Indochina, during a surprise attack by French and Vietnamese ground forces and artillery, Nov. 10, 1951. The bridge was left standing by a disconcerted and retreating Viet Minh rebel force. As the paratroopers mopped up the rebel settlement, a column moved up from the south and another hurried down from the north in a giant pincer movement which caught many pockets of retreating troops at the village of Doy-Couy, some 30 miles south of Hanoi. Rebels left nearly 200 dead. (AP Photo)
