A French corporal leads his men across a small river towards Dom-Dom, Indochina, after French and Vietnamese forces, back by paratroopers and artillery, launched a two-column attack against Viet Minh forces in the Cho-Ben area, some 30 miles south of Hanoi, Nov. 10, 1951. The surprised enemy fled, leaving only skirmishes to cover its retreat, but government forces trapped many pockets of the fleeing Viet Minh. At the village of Doy-Couy, rebels left nearly 200 dead after a pitched battle. (AP Photo)
