Aviatrix Viola Gentry is shown after flying as a passenger on an hour long cruise over New York City, July 11, 1930. Little hope was held for "The Flying Waitress" when she crashed during her endurance plane "The Answer" in a field in Old Westbury, NY July 27, 1929. Her co-pilot Jack Ashcroft was killed in the crash and Gentry's skull was fractured and her shoulder crushed. She spent six months in a hospital in Mineola, NY recovering. (AP Photo)
