Hong Kong, with a 20-mile border with China, and surrounded roughly on three sides by Chinese communists, is taking no chances. In Mock Battle, 250 men of the volunteer Hong Kong defense force (HKDF) stormed ashore on wan Island in Hong Kong, China on August 14, 1950. Eight miles northwest of the British colony, ??skilling??? or ??scapturing??? 80 Bandits???. Defending the Island were ??sBandit??? troops of the 58th medium regiment, royal artillery. After a three hour battle, in which flour-bag bombs were dropped by HKDF planes, both sides sat down to a picnic lunch. One volunteer was injured by the premature explosion of a ??sThunder flash???.
