AP Historical Hard Drive 2009
Oldest building in Buenos Aires, on Feb. 8, 1939, the 31-story Kavanagh building towers over its neighbors, including the Hotel Plaza (adjoining Kavanagh at right). Built of concrete and steel, the structure is devoted exclusively to residences, many of the more wealthy Argentina and foreign families living there. The expensive apartments ranging from 2500 pesos-- about $600 -- monthly down are all air cooled. The building, near Retiro railway station, overlooks the new port section, is on the edge of the business section. (AP Photo)
