AP Historical Hard Drive 2009
A new type amphibian Glider settles down on a lake near Berlin, Oct. 25, 1940 (top) and Jachtmann, its builder, climbs out (Bottom) after landing. The Glider has a wing span of 18 yards and a fuselage six yards long. A 700-yard starting rope run over buoys and manipulated by a special type windlass gives the new ship its flying speech. The buoys are in the background of top picture. (AP Photo)
