Emergency crop cover planting of cane and sudan grass, listed on the contour in cooperation with the Soil Conservation service, brought the first control of the area seen around these good farm buildings abandoned during the 1935 drouth and dust storms. In that year, soil drifts up to six feet surrounded the barns. Record dry weather in 1936 retarded stabilization. These crops were seeded in 1937 and, August 11, 1937 when this picture was taken had provided this effective protection against further wind blowing, paving the way for permanent stabilization and possible reoccupation of the farm proper sail and moisture saving farming methods.
