Joe Lapchick, one of basketball's Original Celtics, died on August 10, 1970 at a hospital in Monticello, N.Y. He was 70. Lapchick, a member of basketball's Hall of Fame, coached St. John's University and the New York Knickerbockers of the National Basketball Association.
