Nestle SA, the world's biggest food company, announced in a statement on Thursday, December 14, 2006, that it will buy the medical-nutrition unit of Swiss drugmaker Novartis AG for $2.5 billion (Euro 1.8 billion) to gain a provider of hospital meals.
