Young boys leave Khalaj High School in the Nawaz District centre after the school's morning session (most schools in Afghanistan have a morning and afternoon session). The school was closed to students during periods of fighting between government and Taliban forces in the past two years but, in between, while the Taliban had control of the entire district for more than a year from the end of 2016, including the district centre, the school remained open to students. The school was also notable for having stayed open when the Taliban first captured the district centre in 2008, thanks to two local mullahs who stepped in to ensured the students could continue attending the school.

Cette йcole est aussi connue pour кtre restйe ouverte lors de la premiиre prise du district par les Talibans en 2008, grвce а deux Mollahs locaux qui se sont assurйs que les йtudiants pourraient continuer а aller en cours.
