As of 6:30 am on Tuesday (8March2022) the fire had been extinguished. Two semi-empty tanks of 17 at the oil base in the village of Chernyakhiv were burning. The city of Zhytomyr, which lies 140 km to the West of Kyiv, and its surrounding areas have been regularly targeted by Russian forces, as they move to encircle the Ukrainian capital.
