Pablo Casals (1876-1973), Catalan-Spanish cellist. Casals was a child prodigy who had a long and successful career as a musician, conductor and composer. He is perhaps best known for his recording of Bach's cello suites. He left Spain and settled in France after the Spanish Civil War because he strongly opposed Franco's regime.
