This lateral (from the side) 3D CT reconstruction of the skull and a 3D angiogram of a brain arterial-venous malformation (AVM) shows the type of high quality images which can now be obtained using spiral CT and 3D rotational angiography. The rounded cutout of the skull illustrates how a craniotomy defect (flap) would look after neurosurgical removal of the skull if brain surgery (neurosurgery) would be utilized to treat this high-flow vascular malformation of the brain.
