BP Helios House, the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Design, a green building rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council) certified gas station in the US, is located in Los Angeles, California. The station has many environmentally-friendly features. The canopy covering the station houses 90 solar panels that supply power for the station. It is clad in recyclable stainless steel panels which reflect sunlight, reducing lighting demand. It also features energy efficient LED lights, concrete mixed with recycled glass, drought-resistant plants used for landscaping, and rain water collection for irrigation of the plants. The station has been in operation since March 2007.
