WEATHER INPUT - Pannage in the New Forest??Pictured: Piglets grazing in the New Forest as part of the yearly pannage tradition ??The pannage season which started last week takes place in early autumn and lasts for 60 days. It is where domesticated pigs are released in to the forest, so that they can eat fallen acorns, beechmast, chestnuts and the like, as these posinous to the New Forest Ponies and cattle.??New Forest is one of the few places in the UK where pannage is still practised, with only 600 pigs and piglets being released each year. The pigs have nose rings to stop them from digging and damaging the forest floor. Please byline: Yvonne Holloway/Solent News ? Yvonne Holloway/Solent News & Photo Agency UK +44 (0) 2380 458800
