Pictured: Detail of the scientific survey equipment attached to the magnetometry cart. Archaeologists have launched a bid to find an ancient Royal hunting lodge built by William the Conqueror - using a pony. Researchers in the New Forest are hoping to uncover the remains of the building during a high tech archaeological survey. But because vehicles are banned from driving across the site due to its scientific significance the team are having to use animal power instead. As part of the project a New Forest pony called Jerry will pull a cart equipped with a scanner, allowing archeologists look beneath the ground for artefacts in areas that they have not previously been able to access.
