Representation from left to right of angiogenesis and antiangiogenic drugs. When the tumor has just formed it is still isolated and produced notably from the VEGF that stimulates the growth of new blood vessels (neovascularization) from already existing vessels. Thanks to the new blood vessels the tumor is then alimented in nutrients and in oxygen. Antiangiogenic drugs (last step) will block the action of VEGF and then destroy the blood vessels recently formed of the tumor. The tumoral cells then die by necrosis.
