By almost biblical light, shepherdess Amy Bateman conducts the last feed of the day for newborn lambs. Her atmospheric self-portrait at her farm outside Kendal sees the scene illuminated solely by the light of the heat lamp which warms the new arrivals into the pet lamb shed. Amy, who has titled the picture 'Warm milk and a bedtime story', explains: "Here I am conducting the last feed of the day by the light of the heat lamp which warms the new arrivals into the pet lamb shed. At this time of year many sheep farmers are working day and night during lambing and we are no different. This is the pet lamb shed where lambs arrive who need extra care and are hand reared. The last feed at night is crucial to ensure they have enough to see them through until morning."
