A view of the Christ the Redeemer statue and the Morro da Coroa favela or shantytown (Coroa Hill) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 8, 2017. In the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, clashes between police and traffickers have no time or place. They happen next to a school full of children or when people are leaving a church. This undeclared war with high-powered weapons intensified after the 2016 Olympic Games. The most brutal face of the economically collapsed city of Rio is reflected in the growing number of victims of stray bullets, mainly in the favelas where a quarter of the city's population lives, but also in the wealthy neighborhoods that surround them.
