Kindu, Congo - Kindu, city in the province of Maniema was once the center of a flourishing rice industry. Between the rubbish, a woman searches for leftover edible grains. The province was formerly known as the "rice barn" of the country. Because of maladministration and war, there are almost no plantations and factories anymore to process the rice harvest. Rice is the most important food for a large part of the world's population, especially in the warmer regions.
