March 11, 2016 - Cadiz, Spain - A local Brotherhood of Penitents carries an effigy of Christ being deposited from the cross in a Via Crucis (stations of the cross) procession across the historic quarter of Cadiz, as part of Lent celebrations leading to Semana Santa (Holy Week, or Easter Week). During Semana Santa, Cadiz and many cities and villages in Spain will be the scene of daily processions in which local brotherhoods of hooded penitents march through the city center to the music of marching brass and drums bands, and carry heavy floats bearing effigies of Jesus Christ or the Virgin Mary.
