The murals of Debre Sina Maaryam are considered the most complex and most vivid colors that have been seen in the Tana region. The local tradition claims that they are of medieval origin, but most likely to be performed at the beginning of the gondar period under the patronage of a name, Melako Tawit, depicted on a mural, and elder sister of Emperor Fasilidas.
