This NOAA/NASA image released January 23, 2017, shows the release of the first image from NOAA's newest satellite, GOES-16, in the latest step in a new age of weather satellites. This composite color image was captured on January 15, 2017, and was created using several of the 16 spectral channels available on the GOES-16 Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) instrument. GOES-16 observes Earth from an equatorial view approximately 22,300 miles high. Like earlier GOES satellites, GOES-16 will use the moon for calibration. / AFP PHOTO / NOAA/NASA / Handout / RESTRICTED TO EDITORIAL USE - MANDATORY CREDIT AFP PHOTO /NOAA/NASA - NO MARKETING - NO ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS - DISTRIBUTED AS A SERVICE TO CLIENTS
