ADV. VANESSA GERA- BC-POLSKA THREATENED GHETTO BUILDING
Snow covers a street that still boasts four surviving buildings from before World War II in the former Warsaw Ghetto, in Warsaw, Poland, Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013. They are some of the very few structures to survive the German onslaught on the Jewish quarter in retaliation for the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943. Now another building nearby, a simple three-story building which also survived, could be torn down to make way for a tall modern structure. The threatened building belongs to Warsaw's Jewish community, and its leaders say they want to build a taller modern building in its place to accommodate a growing community. That has set up a confrontation with architects and other advocates of historic preservation who want to save it. (AP Photo/Czarek Sokolowski)
