This series explores the devastating impact of plastics accumulation in oceans around the globe. Something Fishy: Mysterious Unidentified Floating Objects These underwater images of strange-looking sea creatures would certainly have marine biologists baffled. The pictures in fact show everyday objects photographed to represent sea animals. The project titled 'Plastic Pacific' was created by Australian artist Kim Preston, 33, who wanted to draw attention to the devastating effect of plastic build-up in oceans around the globe. Her simple concept features everyday household plastic objects made to look like the sea life they are destroying. Shot in her garden shed Kim used a blue fabric as the backdrop and hung all the objects from a clothes rack while she photographed them. For the bags and shower caps, she would quickly blow into them before snapping a shot with a wireless shutter release. The straws were shot underwater, as was the original plan for all the objects to be shot inside a large fish tank, but her lack of budget forced her to become more creative and quite literally think outside the box. Commenting on her project Kim Preston said: "This is a photographically based rant against the irresponsible overuse of plastic. "It's destroying our oceans and sea life, and seemingly nothing is being done about it. "I have recently obtained my PADI scuba diving certificate in Indonesia and seeing all the plastic caught on the reefs inspired this project."
