The Death Pit
One of the most widely reproduced photos of a massacre in Eastern Europe showing an execution possibly by members of a German Sonderkommando and local forces. The picture was first published 1945 in Zaglada Zydostwa Polskiego, Album Zdjec (The Extermination of Polish Jews, an Album of Photographs), by the Jewish Historical Committee in Lodz, which stated that it had been taken in the north-east of Poland. The perpetrators are identified in the caption as "Germans and secret police agents". Poland.
