'Slutwalk' demonstration, Piccadilly, London, Britain - 11 Jun 2011
Hundreds of women took to the streets of London today to take part in a 'SlutWalk'. Many who turned out for the event, which mirrors others that have taken place across the globe, donned provocative and revealing outfits. According to organisers the purpose of SlutWalks is to insist that women should be able to wear as much or as little as they want without facing harassment. The idea for the marches was born in Toronto, Canada when Police officer Michael Sanguinetti told students at Osgoode Hall Law School during a campus safety talk: "Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimised". Following the comments the first SlutWalk was held in Toronto in April.
