NEEDING A NEW HOME... Snails slurp from discarded rubbish in a series of photos showing the sad impact rubbish has on the environment. The snail is seen drawn to a straw of a carton dumped in water in Bursa, Turkey. Environmental Science and Technology Professor Savas Sener, 58, local to Bursa, Turkiye said "My heroes are snails whose only concern is to drink a few drops of clean water when they wake up in the morning. Because they have to produce mucus to move around and for that they need a few drops of water every morning. Sadly because us humans pollute water sources, they cannot always find clean unpolluted drinking water." "Instead, they have to live with the waste that we humans irresponsibly leave in nature and drink the water polluted by this waste. Many snails and many other species of animals live in the wetlands we share with other animals. They are exposed to adverse conditions." "For me, snails are very aesthetic creatures. Their spiral shells are already one of the wonders of nature. In addition to that, their semi-translucent bodies give very beautiful photographs, especially in reverse light." Because they have to produce mucus to move around and for that they need a few drops of water every morning. But because we humans pollute water sources, they cannot always find a clean nature and unpolluted drinking water. Instead, they have to live with the waste that we humans irresponsibly leave in nature and drink the water polluted by this waste. In the story, they are the silent scream of all other living things. Let's see if I can make you hear this silent scream. When I took these photographs, I set up a scene in nature, with snails as the best model to illustrate the vital importance of water for living things. In reality, we pollute nature and wetlands. First, I collected the waste objects we throw away and used them in the scene, simulating similar conditions. Sometimes these are plastics, rusted metal objects, waste batteries or bottles of chemicals, medical or pesticides. I cleaned them thoroughly before using them. Sometimes the shooting takes hours. Because these little creatures are scared, they take a long time to come out of their shells. I shoot in the early morning because they are thirsty during the night. Many snails and many other species of animals live in the wetlands we share with other animals. They are exposed to similar adverse conditions. In my photographs, snails are the “silent scream” of other creatures. For me, snails are very aesthetic creatures. Their spiral shells are already one of the wonders of nature. In addition to that, their semi-translucent bodies give very beautiful photographs, especially in reverse light. Their communication between each other is amazing. They immediately court each other during the shooting. In fact, one day during the shoot, one of the females started laying eggs. 58 years old. Live in Bursa, Turkiye. A scientist .......
