Huddled together
HEARTWARMING images of a grizzly bear family spending quality time together have been captured.
Images show the bear family enjoying time on the shore next glacier-fed lake before the bear mum gathers up her cubs for a feed.
Grizzly bears are large and range in colour from very light tan almost white to dark brown.
Their varied diet consists of salmon and small mammals such as marmots, ground squirrels, lemmings, and voles.
Male grizzly bears weigh up to 700 pounds, with the males being heavier than the females. Large females can weigh about 250 to 350 pounds.
These images were snapped in Alaska by Scott Suriano (50) a wildlife photographer from Maryland, United States.
“I was approximately over 200 feet away from these bears and photographed them from a boat,” he told mediadrumworld.com.
“The distance is both for our safety as well as to make sure the animals are comfortable
and their natural behaviour is not impacted.
“Being able to watch this mother bear nourish her cubs was a very exciting and unexpected experience.
“It was especially a special experience knowing that this bear family was comfortable enough to nurse her cubs in our presence.
“The momma bear had spent some time fishing for the spawning Sockeye Salmon that were in the pristine lake as the three one-year-old cubs played and waited on the shore.
“Once the mum was finished she walked out of the water and onto the shore where she met back up with her cubs.
“After looking down the lake to make sure it was safe from a male Grizzly that was in the area, she went to the edge of the tree line and all three bear cubs piled on her and began nursing.”
