Holocaust survivor Jozef Cipin shows old family photos at his home in Toronto on December 8, 2024. Jozef Cipin was born in Banovce nad Bebravou, Czechoslovakia, in 1932. Jozef and his family remained at the Czechoslovakian Novaky labour camp until they escaped during an uprising at the labour camp in August 1944. While living in the mountains near Banovce nad Bebravou following their escape, it was there he was apprehended and deported to Theresienstadt in March 1945 where he remained in orphanages until liberation at 11-years-old, on May 8, 1945.
