Story from Jam Press (Stag Antlers) Pictured: The majestic stag with its antlers covered in fencing wire. Majestic stag spotted tangled with fencing wire in ancient woodland A majestic stag has been seen with green fencing wire entangled in its antlers. Paul Wilson spotted the deer during the current rutting season. He said the stag seemed unaffected by the wire and had a harem of over 20 females with him. He was spotted in the Quantock Hills, near Bridgewater, Somerset, as reported by What's The Jam. "The photos of this stag may look upsetting but it is not affecting his life in any way at the moment,” he said. “He has travelled miles to get where he is and is in good condition. "He is eating well and breathing fine and he has a good harem of hinds with him - 20 plus." Mr Wilson, 56, said it was one of the biggest stags he had seen in the area. He said: “I went up early one morning and I saw this stag with all green wire wrapped around his antlers. “This time of year they try to make their antlers look bigger than they are. “They thrash around in the heather or fern to entice the ladies.” Jochen Langbein, from the Quantock Deer Management Group, said male deer often have foliage or bracken in their antlers during rutting season. He added that the antlers would eventually drop off before regrowth next year. ENDS
