A scene of horror became a hoot after a bedraggled owl rescuers thought was dead turned out to be alive and flapping.
At a car repair garage in New York State, USA, workers made a grim discovery finding a young great horned owl floating in a pool of water.
But suddenly what seemed like a lost cause became a rescue operation as workers at the Saratoga Spa State Park garage called for help as they realised the bird was still alive.
As these photographs show, the zombie-like owl soon opened its eyes wide after being cared for by a wildlife rehabilitator from North Country Wild Care.
Despite looking a bit peaky, the little owl was dried off and spent a few days recovering before being released fully recovered back into the wild earlier this month (July).
Mechanic Danny Games and his colleagues work for the state park and had been keeping tadpoles in some large water containers.
When Danny and his team discovered the owl, they fished it out using a snow shovel, and as these images the bird didnât look in the best shape.
Danny told NBC 13: âWe wrapped it in a towel, put it in a box and put it in a quiet corner just to relax so nothing would bother it and scare it, and just let it relax.â
A spokesperson for New York State Parks said: âThe morning after a quick, violent, heavy storm rolled through Saratoga Spa State Park, a shocking discovery was made at the vehicle maintenance garage â a young owl face down in a pool of water.
