These images and video footage show the Israeli strikes that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, Lebanon on Friday (27September2024).
The Israel Defense Forces released photos of top officials at the moment the strikes were confirmed as having been conducted successfully, as well as video footage of the planes that carried out the strikes.
The video shows eight planes fitted with at least 15 2,000-pound bombs, including the American-manufactured BLU-109 with the precision guided JDAM kit system, Trevor Ball, a former U.S. Army explosive ordnance disposal technician told The New York Times. These bombs are known as bunker busters and can penetrate underground fortifications. One is shown returning to base without its bombs.
Nasrallah’s death was confirmed by Hezbollah on Saturday. Having risen to lead Hezbollah in the early 1990s, Nasrallah built up the militant Islamist group, which was founded in the 1980s to fight Israel’s occupation of Lebanon, into a formidable force capable of targeting Northern Israel with regular rocket attacks and fighting on the side of Basha al-Assad in the Syrian Civil War.
After Hamas’ 7 October attack on Israel Hezbollah, a designated terror group in the US and UK, fired thousands of rockets into Israel.
