Trevor Skaggs of the Butte County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) Search and Rescue team completed an incredible rescue on Sunday (28July2024) by saving a pet Rottweiler and her puppies from the Park wildfire.
Amid frantic evacuations in a remote area above Cohasset, near Campbellville, a resident’s truck broke down. Forced to leave the vehicle behind, the owner had to abandon two adult Rottweilers and their puppies. Although the truck's location was provided to responders, the area was initially inaccessible due to the ongoing fire.
Yesterday, Trevor Skaggs, a member of the Butte County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) Search and Rescue team, flew to the site in a BCSO helicopter. Upon landing, Trevor ran 1.5 miles to the truck’s location and discovered the puppies and their mother alive but exhausted and extremely thirsty. Sadly, the puppies’ father did not survive.
Trevor gave the mother and puppies water and shared his protein bar with them. He then managed to lead the five dogs 1.5 miles back to the helicopter. The puppies and their mother were subsequently flown to the Chico Airport and are now being cared for by members of the North Valley Animal Disaster Group.
