Athletes got on boats and cruised down an open-air parade along a 6km stretch of the Seine, passing by historic Paris landmarks, including the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral and the Louvre. The ceremony kicked off 16 days of competition across 32 disciplines. A total of 206 Olympic national teams including the Individual Neutral Athletes and the Refugee Olympic Team participated in the Paris Olympic Games. ( The Yomiuri Shimbun via AP Images )
