This cheeky bear hides from a photographer as it carefully climbs up a tree trunk. The playful brown bear, which was actually hunting for honey, was snapped in the Taiga Forest in Finland.
Photographer Timothy Lees said, “I knew that the bears always sniff around trees for honey, so I set my camera up to where I thought it would go to make it look like it was hiding.”
“It worked perfectly - I love the shot as it showcases the true size of the bear, as well as looking like it’s hiding from me!”

*** Local Caption *** They were taken Taiga Forrest, north Finland it was hard work as we were spending 15 hours from late afternoon to morning for 6 days in mosquitoe infested damp conditions…. We had guides to show us to the areas the bear frequently attended… with the bear cub it was a total surprise as the scull was behind a tree stump and I didn’t see it and it picked it up got it out and started playing with it behind it which frustrated me so the next night I put the scull out in the open and to my delight the same cub turned up and ran straight over and started playing with it right infront of me ….. after a quick burst of shots its mother called him and he dropped it and went to her when looking at the pics it looked like it was playing the guitar and even the flute in one of them it was a very special moment…..
with the bear hiding I new the shot I wanted and no the bears always sniff the trees so I put some honey about head height for the bear behind the tree and set my camera up infront of the tree to make it look like he was hiding I love the shot because it showcases the size of the bear aswell as looking like it’s hiding behind the tree … the bears are used to guides taking photographers into to forest and there are photography hides set up so not to desturbing the animals , there natural behaviour, and obviously to protect the photographers as these are wild animals unpredictable and very powerful and protective of their young….
