This photograph taken on April 26, 2024 shows a view of the bell tower of the church taken from inside the Cadillac castle in Cadillac-sur-Garonne, south-western France, which used to accomodate dozens of girls aged 8 to 21 in a so-called preservation school (ecole de preservation) from 1905 to 1952. The 16th century Chateau de Cadillac (Cadillac castle), built south of Bordeaux by the Duc of Epernon, was France's first women's prison, from 1818 to 1891, before being reconverted to a young women's preservation school, the equivalent of a juvenile corrections facility, until 1951.
