FILE -- In a hat given to him moments before by Urban Park Rangers, Mayor Edward I. Koch was invited to lead the All-City High School Band in "The Stars and Stripes For Ever," during an event in New York, June 12, 1979. Koch, the master showman of City Hall, who parlayed shrewd political instincts and plenty of chutzpah into three tumultuous terms as mayor of New York with all the tenacity, zest and combativeness that personified his city of golden dreams, died Friday morning, Feb. 1, 2013, at age 88.
