Mossville, LA - 2/6/2016 - Haki Kazi Vincent (formerly Marvin D. Vincent) feeds his horse in the backyard of his home near Old Spanish Trail in Mossville. Vincent has refused to accept the SASOL corporation's offer for a voluntary buyout of his property. His family history on the land goes back further than most residents of the small community. Nearly all the residents of Mossville -- founded by an ex-slave in 1790 and one of the first settlements of free blacks in the South -- have moved away after accepting buyouts from Sasol. Once a homeowner leaves, their property is quickly cleared to make way for the ongoing expansion.
