Story from Jam Press (Cops Move Alligator) Pictured: A video grab of cops moving a giant alligator from a drainage ditch with a grapple truck. VIDEO: Moment cops move giant alligator using grapple truck Cops had to call in a grapple truck to help remove a giant alligator from a drainage ditch. Officials had to get creative to relocate the gator to a safe location. Footage shows the large reptile being lifted from the watery ditch by a crane before being lowered into the back of the truck. The rescue took place in Monte Belvieu, located east of Houston in Texas, US, on Monday (3 Jun). The city council said the 12ft long (3.6m) alligator was spotted by an officer of the Mont Belvieu Police Department. The cop then contacted Animal Services for help, as reported by What's the Jam. They suggested calling the Public Works Department to provide a truck to remove the reptile due to its enormous size. A council spokesperson said: “It was truly a team effort. “Mont Belvieu Public Works used their grapple truck to assist Animal Control and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TWPD) in removing this 12ft gator from a ditch along Eagle Drive. “Great grab, guys. “See ya later, alligator!” According to TWPD, alligators are commonly found in swamps, bayous, rivers, and marshes throughout the southern US. They typically grow to six to 14ft (1.8 to 4.3m) in length. One local commented: “How to know when it has rained too much in Texas...” Another said: “Seems like a lot of money spent on the relocation of one gator.” “Ship it to Florida please,” joked someone else.
