(NYT33) NEW YORK -- July 9, 2002 -- JACKSON-SONY -- Michael Jackson, left, has depicted Thomas D. Mottola, chief executive of the Sony Music Group, as the devil, waving photographs of the executive scrawled with horns and a pitchfork at a Manhattan rally on Saturday. He is charging that the music business is racist. But it is widely believed in the industry that his new passion for struggling black artists is an attempt to extract concessions out of Mottola and his company. Jackson, met Tuesday in Harlem with the lawyer Johnnie Cochran, right, and the Rev. Al Sharpton. Sharpton is said to sought to distance himself from Jackson's accusations.
