(NYT38) ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Dec. 9, 2007 -- PAKISTAN -- Pakistani members of civil society and members of minority during a rally to show solidarity with media and lawyers, march towards the Geo News building in Islamabad on Friday Dec. 7, 2007. The two main opposition parties led by the former prime ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif said they would participate in Jan. 8 parliamentary elections, despite deep misgivings about whether the vote could be free and fair. The move came as an opposition call to boycott the elections foundered Sunday. (Akhtar Soomro/The New York Times)
