(NYT19) NEW YORK -- December 9, 2007 -- GIULIANI-PROSECUTOR-B&W-2 -- Paul Castellano, leader of the Gambino crime family, in New York City in March 1984 after Rudolph W. Giuliani announced the indictments against him. Giuliani in the 1980s waved his prosecutor?s scythe, and Wall Street barons, political bosses and Mafia dons seemed to fall in serried rows. He inspired cinematic characters, took ovations in restaurants and battled the same Reagan administration officials who appointed him. (Keith Meyers/The New York Times)
