(NYT33) SILVERTON, Colo. -- Jan. 9, 2007 -- TRAVEL-COLORADO-SILVERTON-ADV14-5 -- The "lodge" at the Silverton Mountain ski area, is a big, occasionally leaky, tentlike structure in December 2006. This six-year-old, vertigo-inducing backcountry "ski area" in the San Juan mountains of southwest Colorado that scoffs at niceties like slope grooming and running water, has a way of quickly separating, with the deftness of a croupier, the rippers from the gapers, the noobs and the one-and-done's.
