(NYT44) NEW YORK -- December 25, 2006 -- OBIT-BROWN-3 -- A promotional poster was changed into a memorial on Monday, December 25, 2006, for singer James Brown where he was booked to play a New Year's Eve show at BB King's on 42nd street in Manhattan. Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured "Godfather of Soul," whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco as well, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.
